THE BOY by William Brent Bell

The Plot: Greta (Lauren Cohan) is an American nanny who is hired by an English old couple to take care of their son while they will be in vacation, but their son is a life-sized doll. Don’t believing that the doll is a real boy, Greta violates the rules she was given, but soon she starts changing her mind.

The cast: Lauren Cohan, the Maggie from THE WALKING DEAD, is better as a non-believer in the supernatural, than as a motherly nanny; but her nice personality make us care for her. Rupert Evans convinces as Malcom, the guy who delivers the groceries, and there’s chemistry between him and Cohan. But the presence of the creepy doll outshines both.

The Movie: I always had a stupid fear of dolls and so I was expecting to have goosebumps all over me while watching this movie. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Director William Brent Bell gives us a tense atmosphere and a couple of good scares, but the story is quite predictable and, without giving you any spoilers, the end seems to belong to a different movie. The house is impressive and spooky. If the characters of the horror movies were like me, there wouldn’t be any movies, because I would never stay at a house like this one and I would never take care of a doll. Anyway, as horror movies go, this one keeps us interested and the acting is good.

My Rate: 6 (from 1 to 10)
