THE FOREST by Jason Zada

The Plot: Sara (Natalie Dormer) goes to Japan, searching for her twin sister who disappeared into the Suicide Forest.

The cast: This movie needed an actress with whom we could create an emotional connection, but the character of a rich, a little bit arrogant, woman who doesn’t pay attention to anyone isn’t very appealing and Natalie Dormer as Sara plays it with a continuous suspicious look. She fails in making us care for her and the same happens when she plays her twin sister. Taylor Kinney plays the handsome and mysterious hero, but his character never develops behind the draft.

The Movie: The trailer promised a chilling horror movie and the idea of the Suicide Forest is an interesting one for the genre. Unfortunately, director Jason Zada fails in creating a menace atmosphere and the action drags for more or less 90 boring minutes. Fans of gore will be disappointed and fans of the supernatural will feel cheated. With no suspense and nothing really strong happening (the best scene happens in a hotel and involves a blind old woman), the movie wastes a great idea and I hope someone will go back to this forest and use it for a real horror movie, one that scares us. Anyway, I liked the forest set; I just wish the director had made it more of a character, a spooky character.

My Rate: 3 (from 1 to 10)
